Nearly a month later and two episodes down, it’s quite unclear if the show is living up to its great expectations on the reality show end of the spectrum.

The only probable reason TV lovers pay reality shows any mind is that they have been sold the promise that in exchange for their time, they get exclusive access to the private parts-pun intended-of their subjects.

Big Brother Naija sweethearts, Mercy Eke and Ike Onyema recently opened their privates to viewers for a second round.

The idea of a reality show that follows the lives and romance of the Big Brother Naija alumni and that’s exactly what ‘Mercy and Ike’ promises- a scripted nearly 30- minute show that follows magical the magical new lives of the reality stars.

For Mercenaries, Ike Gang and none fanbase alike, the lovebirds’ April 8 social media posts announcing a new reality show was the anticipated one-way ticket to premium entertainment. Finally! An insight into one of the most fantasized romances of Nigerian celebrity history.

Nearly a month later and two episodes down, it’s quite unclear if the show is living up to its great expectations on the reality show end of the spectrum.

The show’s organizers spared no expense in the production of this show. It boasts of impressive picture quality and an indelible display of luxury plus each episode goes straight to Showmax for fans who can’t catch the action on African Magic Showcase.

Mercy’s classic grass to grace story is also a soft spot for her fans but all that pause in transmission to wipe a few tears while giving the viewers a few seconds to awww and owww knocks the audience out of whatever little emotion they may have gathered.

The couple gives off no emotion remotely related to attraction. We hear them insinuate that they are in love, even pretend to genuinely care about flirting strangers and I might as well condemn myself to a lifetime of watching the Premier League before I find their romance believable. Behind Ike’s plastic smile is a fed-up brother with eyes that constantly scream unprintable words.

Inspite of its early flaws, hope is not lost. There might be some good news lurking around the corner. Thankfully, the show is only two episodes in which means it still has ample time to redeem itself.
