On February 14, 2020, Chike marked celebrations of St. Valentine’s Day with his debut album, ‘Boo of The Booless.’
After promising stints on Project Fame, The Voice Nigeria and Battleground, Chike marked himself out with singles like, ‘Beautiful People,’ ‘Out of Love’ and ‘Amen.’ Those songs gathered a niche market, but the Nigerian audience for what Nigerians call, ‘Quality music’ wasn’t as awake. That market was mostly owed by folks like Ric Hassani, Johnny Drille, Bez and so forth.
But a few weeks ago, announcements started making the rounds that Chike was finally ready for his debut album, Boo of The Booless. A few days later, the album was available for pre-order on digital streaming platforms. Then, it became visible that the album was going to be a 14-track movement.
When you listen to Boo of The Booless, you would realize its grounding in astute songwriting that aids visualization of scenarios, relatable storytelling, diverse sonic experience (based off folk, R&B, afro-pop, alternative pop an hi-life), quality deliver and carefully selected features that serve a purpose.
While the album art might be confusing, it’s pretty straightforward. With the crown on his head and the regal outfit he wears, Chike paints a picture of himself as the purveyor of love. To him, the album is a glowing tribute to the gods of love, Eros, Agape, Pragma, Storge, Mania, Ludus, Philautiaand Philia.
