Amongst other things, Burna declared himself the best Nigerian artist since Fela, called out his peers for being pretentious and says no Nigerian artist paved the way for him.
On February 12, 2020, Nigerian superstar came for Nigerian artists on his Twitter account. Amongst other things, he claimed that Nigerian artists were pretentious.
Asides that, he also claimed he wass the best Nigerian artist since Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Those tweets have since gone viral and with the virality has come conversation about the rightness or wrongness of Burna Boy.
Nigerians react to Burna as the best since new Fela
Immediately we finished hyping his sold out concert, spirit of sise sise just entered Burna Boy. He has been acting like a possessed dude ever since then. Trash talking as if he fell from heaven. Have you ever seen a king ruled forever? Only God Almighty is infallible. Calm down!

The likes of Sunny Ade & Majek Fashek had a great run in the international scene.
It just wasn't properly documented.

Best since Fela Kuti. Hmmm…
Men you can’t even touch King Sunny Ade’s shoe or one dreadlock on Majek Fashek. Let’s keep it a buck my nigga. As Brand Nubians once said ‘don’t let it go to your head now’.

Did any Nigerian artist pave the way for Burna Boy?
There is no single Nigerian artiste who did anything deliberately because they wanted to "open the door" for others. Whatever they did, they did for themselves with the goal of being the beneficiary. The idea that Burna owes his success to that is what the boy refuses to accept.

Achebe put it this way; "after eating a heavy meal, Nwanza the bird decided to challenge his chi to a wrestling match".
Of course, his "chi" completely floored him.
That's the same way I feel about Burna Boy. It is clear to even the blind that others paved the way for him.

Wizkid spent almost 4 months in the US last year. Making good music with the powerhouses of Hollywood.
Davido also have been consistent matching records set by the likes of 2face, Psquare and D’banj.
Now we have Burna Boy(Van Dijk) “ 2 season wonder” who thinks he is the Best!

I trolled Burna heavy when he first said "African Giant" but since then he has actually walked the talk & shown his worth.
The "pave way" part of his speech is actually cap but the "I'm the Best" part? He's earned such bragging rights abeg, let him flex it…fuck faux humility.

— James Ndubuisi (@JamesNdu_) February 12, 2020
All I can say is thank God Burnaboy didn’t win that Grammy.
PR stunt or not, thank God he didn’t win it.

How ‘wawu’ hot takes
No one is talking about Don Jazzy , Reminisce, Olamide , No one is talking about Psquare , Dbanj , Davido , Banky W , Wizkid , Simi etc
These are the people that built the Nigerian music industry for me & have been consistent , I was stanning Burna on something else entirely .

Burna Boy is a cultural pride. A proud representation of the power of Nigeria’s soft power. May his star continue to shine and his talent continue to find expression on the world stage. As for me and my house, this culture must take over the world!

It seems some people think Burna blew because of Ye and I am genuinely confused because I am sure like to party was a hit and it was released in 2012.
Or what do you mean?

Been getting messages from people who know i am a die hard fan of Burna Boy asking me my opinion. You know what? Let Burna be Burna, he can’t bend to be what you want him to be. Call it arrogance or whatever. He has his right to his opinion. pic.twitter.com/f1pi16Wm15
